Find employers who accept Day 1 CPT!
Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is a valuable opportunity for international students in the U.S. to gain hands-on work experience related to their field of study. Many companies are open to hiring students on CPT, especially those that have previously worked with international talent. Industries like technology, finance, engineering, and healthcare often have structured internship or co-op programs where CPT students can fit in easily. Employers typically value the specialized knowledge and global perspective that international students bring, and as long as the role aligns with the academic program, CPT is a perfectly legal and acceptable way to work.
That said, students using CPT should be transparent with employers during the application process. While some smaller companies may be unfamiliar with CPT, a brief explanation and support from your university’s international office can usually clear up any concerns. The key is to target companies that are flexible, have international experience, or are located near universities with large international student populations. Networking through career fairs, professors, and alumni can also help connect you with employers who understand and are willing to accommodate CPT.
